Edinburgh
has been the capital city of Scotland for around 500 years. It is noted
for the volcanic crag of Arthur's Seat, and for being the seat of the
Scottish Government. Because of this and the city's universities, it has
a vibrant economy and social scene. Landlords
provide flats to let in the city centre, encompassing the historic Old
Town and the subsequent New Town, to Edwardian townhouses in the
sought-after West End. In recent years the focus for property
development, with an increasing influx of young professionals, partially
influenced by the location of the new Scottish Government building, has
been in the old harbour areas of Leith and Ocean Terminal. Higher city
rents have led to expansion of the property market in Penicuik,
Bonnyrigg and Midlothian towns to the south. To the west of Edinburgh are the historic towns of
Linlithgow and Kirkliston, ideal for commuting, as well as the West
Lothian towns of Livingston, Broxburn and Bathgate. Girlings offer
retirement flats in Edinburgh for the over-60s.
